
2024 Programme
Shell Eco-marathon enters the 39th year of bringing students from all over the world together to push the boundaries of energy efficiency in competition.
This season sees the return of three regional competitions, each hosting an epic Regional Championship, and two local events. The 2024 competition will provide opportunities for a new generation of brilliant young Changemakers; and the chance to put their design, technology and engineering skills to the ultimate test with their energy-efficient vehicles both on and off the track.
We have some exciting updates to our Global Rules for all our participants to be aware of, including,
- Teams can now be made up of students coming from two different schools
- Allowances for changes in your Team name to build your own brand
- Energy measurement as outlined in Article 56 to be implemented in 2024

2024 Regional Competitions
In 2024, Shell Eco-marathon will host three big regional events across: Americas, Europe and Africa, and Asia-Pacific and the Middle East.
The regional mileage competitions are designed for experienced teams to push new boundaries, encouraging innovation and novel approaches to achieving energy efficiency. These larger competitions invite between 80 and 150 teams to each competition, after securing their place through a strict selection process that receives the best teams from each region.

Local Competitions
Local competitions are designed for teams looking to discover Shell Eco-marathon for the first time, or for seasoned competitors to fine-tune and refine their cars ahead of regional competitions.
These events give STEM students an opportunity to get hands-on technical experience and valuable time and advice from experts.

Autonomous Competitions
The Autonomous Competition creates a challenging competitive arena, both online and on-ground, for student teams to get hands-on experience with autonomous technology and continue to explore how it can help to achieve the most optimum energy efficiency.

Championship Series
This prestigious series sees teams who have achieved the highest level of energy efficiency in their regional competition, go head-to-head in an exciting race for speed and efficiency. This competition series is exclusively for teams who choose to design and build an Urban Concept car. The Urban Concept category focuses on city driving, challenging teams to strive for energy optimisation in cars that also need to fulfil human needs like driver comfort and space for luggage.
