Three words to describe Shell Eco-marathon, to me, is innovative, competitive and teamwork.

Joey Logano’s 5 Top Tips for a successful Shell Eco-marathon

Joey in vision:

Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s leading student engineering competitions. Teams from across the globe compete to build the most energy-efficient vehicles – and they’re finally back on track.

As a championship-winning race car driver, I know a thing or two about successful competition. Here are some of my top tips for terrific teamwork.

[Text displays]

Tip 1

Teamwork

Joey in vision:

One of the key things here is to make sure that everyone is treated the same throughout the team. Not one person is more important than the next. You need everybody working together in unison to really see success.

[Text displays]

Tip 2

Communicate

Joey in vision:

I am a big fan of over-communicating. Don’t assume that people know what you’re thinking. You have to tell them where you think you’re at, where things need to be and over-communicate that to everybody.

[Text displays]

Tip 3

Learn from your mistakes

Joey in vision:

I think you need to learn how to love mistakes. Realise that when you make a mistake, you become smarter and stronger. And if you have that attitude, you never fail.

[Text displays]

Tip 4

Efficiency

Joey in vision:

Stay off the loud peddle. Get your foot off the gas, coast, do not use the break and try to roll momentum. That’s where the milage comes from.

[Text displays]

Tip 5

Learn the track

Joey in vision:

Understand what turns you can only go a certain speed in before you really start scrubbing around the corners. Learn where the hills are. Learn where the bumps are. You always want to keep the car on the smoothest surface possible, so understanding that without making the track distance any longer. Understanding where you want to have that top speed. Where the wind’s typically blowing. You gotta know the track that you’re on.

Don’t forget to follow #ShellEcoMarathon for all the latest from the teams. I’ll be keeping up with how everybody’s doing, so good luck and have a great season.
