Meet the Wawasee Gold team from USA
Wawasee Gold credit themselves as more than a team but a group of friends, and are living proof that through hard work, overcoming challenges and applying their learning, the reward is worth the effort.
Wawasee Gold are a High School team from Syracuse, Indiana, and beyond the 10 people who make up their participating team, they credit their school and community as their wider team and supporters. Together they take on multiple roles to achieve success.
The biggest challenge for this team was time, adapting to a new school schedule meant they lost a lot of hours to work on their car, and it took teamwork to complete their project ahead of the regionals. They also switched to a new electronic fuel injection system this year and overcame a lot of technical difficulties to get their engine performing at the optimum level.
As a High School team, through their participation in Shell Eco-marathon, they are thankful for the opportunity to learn about energy challenges and as they move to their college careers, these will be aspirations that will further develop. Their most memorable moment is reaching the last corner of the track during the regional event, with only 2% remaining fuel, and knowing then they had qualified to go to the World Championship.
