Rishabh:
You qualified for the World championship, thought you had everything organised. And then your main driver could not get a visa to travel to India, but you persevered.

Tyson:
So, it was a little bit of a scramble just before heading off,

[Visuals]
Cuts to three-way split of team members working on vehicles.

Tyson voice-over:
but we managed to pull everyone and everything together to make it here.

[Visuals]
Cuts to Rishabh.

Rishabh:
That's amazing, but on such short notice, how did you get things back on track?

[Visuals]
Cuts to Tyson.

Tyson:
I was originally actually the reserve driver when we were in Indianapolis,

[Visuals]
Cuts to Tyson’s vehicle being rolled in the paddocks.

Tyson voice-over:
and so having Lindon unable to drive, I was then

Tyson voice-over:
brought forward to be the main driver here in India at the World Championships. Fortunately,

Tyson:
I put a GoPro inside the car when we were in Indianapolis. And so I was able to

Tyson voice-over:
watch some of the footage of Linden driving and

so, I was able to study how he drove and just before taking off to India,

I’d met with Linden. We spent an evening

Tell me more about the GoPro recording that you saw from the regional competition of your main driver, what specifics did you focus on to quickly learn?

Watch first-hand accounts from passionate Gen Zs with a clear purpose of creating more sustainable mobility solutions, as they push their design, technology, and engineering skills to the limit in the final epic battle of the season.

In the final film of the series, Rishabh Chopra from Shell talks to three teams about the power of perseverance to find out what these young STEM students have had to face and ultimately overcome in their Shell Eco-marathon journeys.

Tyson from Sask Eco UC, Canada – explains how when their driver couldn’t get a VISA to travel to India for the World Championship, he had to step up to the challenge.

Léo-Paul from ENSEM, France – reveals that despite their 25 years in the competition, this is their first ever World Championship, proving that never giving up has paid off for their team.

Keegan from Wawasee Gold, USA – talks about the importance of perseverance when it comes to getting sponsors and raising money for their high school team.

“Everything is possible… never give up”

– Léo-Paul Carré, ENSEM, France

About this series

At the heart of the competition is a challenge with long-lasting implications for us all: How can we travel the farthest using as little energy as possible? Tasked with creating a vehicle that can test this theory and change how we see and understand mobility, students embark on a journey that will push their design, technology, and engineering skills to the limit both on and off the track.

Shell Eco-marathon embodies the spirit of young changemakers who demonstrate innovation, perseverance, and collaboration.

Shell Eco-marathon teams from around the globe came together at the World Championship 2023 in Bangalore, India from October 10 – 12, 2023. Whilst these young STEM students may come from different countries, cultures, and educational curriculums, they all share a common goal, to create a more energy-efficient future.
